Fire Prevention Week at The Academy
As part of The Academy at Ocean Reef’s ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe environment for the children and staff, The Academy was excited to welcome officers from the Public Safety Department during Fire Prevention Week.
On Thursday, October 10, following an introduction from Head of School Jerome Murphy describing the important and various roles our Public Safety officers play in keeping all community members and visitors safe, the officers addressed the students about fire prevention and safety in the event of a fire. During the interactive presentation, students learned about the importance of fire alarms, smoke detectors, evacuation plans, and calling 911. After learning about all of the equipment worn by firefighters, students went outside and enjoyed the opportunity to sit inside the fire truck and see all of the instruments used by firemen during a fire.
At the conclusion of the morning program, the Public Safety officers provided the students with gift bags filled with hats, pencils, rulers, and a coloring book related to fire safety to serve as a reminder of what they learned. Much to the delight of the children, the firemen turned on all of their sirens and horns as they departed The Academy.
The students appreciated the opportunity to learn more about fire prevention, and they are grateful for the presence of the Ocean Reef’s Public Safety Department in ensuring a safe environment for all of us.
