Fire Prevention Week at The Academy
by Jerome Murphy, Head of School
The Academy at Ocean Reef was delighted to host John Flynn, Fire-Rescue Chief, and his team of firefighter paramedics at The Academy Friday, October 11, as part of Fire Prevention Week.
Our Toddler and Pre-K classes were delighted to meet Sparky and have a story on fire prevention read to them. While that was going on, a team of fire medics met with our Kindergarten-5th graders to review essential tips and guidance related to fire safety. The fire medics reviewed with Academy students the importance of when to call 911, when to drop and roll, when to yell, “I am here”, and the importance of knowing their address if and when they call 911.

To conclude the fire medics’ visit, all of our students, Toddler through 8th grade, had the opportunity to spray the firehose at a set target! Suffice to say, everyone hit the designated target and showed that we have some up and coming fire medics in our community.
On behalf of all of us at The Academy, we are so grateful to have such a committed group of professionals from ORCA’s Public Safety Department who take such pride in keeping all of us free from harm on a daily basis. Thank you to our ORCA fire medics for sharing your knowledge and for exemplifying your commitment to our safety!
