Local Arts, Crafts & Fashion
By Holly Houser, Ocean Reef Press Manager
You may be surprised to learn just how many talented artists and craftsmen we have within Ocean Reef and the surrounding community. These local artisans showcase their best works at Ocean Reef each February during the Art & Fashion Walk. This year’s group of 10 artists and vendors include several with intimate ties to Ocean Reef Club.
Alexandra Jones, Mixed Media
Alexandra Jones holds a special place in her heart for Ocean Reef. Since a young age, she’s been visiting her grandfather, Bob Jones, a Member and former commodore of Key Largo Anglers Club and she hopes to become a Junior Legacy Member herself. A mixed media artist, oil, resin, acrylic and watercolor are amongst her mediums. Jones’ art style communicates her love for the ocean and nature, and she strives to express the ambience of Ocean Reef and Key Largo Anglers Club through her work.
Stephen Wood, Oil Painting
Stephen Wood began painting in oils at age 15 and has since grown into a celebrated landscape and portrait painter. His commissioned portraits remain in high demand and he’s even painted a mural for the Armed Forces that’s on display at Fort Dix, NJ.
Wood owns a studio and gallery in Rockport, MA and spends his summers in Boston. As an Ocean Reef Member, Wood often captures Ocean Reef symbols en plein air, like The Point, the Fishing Village, Buccaneer Island, the Marina, and more.
Jimmy’s Bright Ideas, Repurposed Lamps
Jimmy and Jacinta Cordovez launched Jimmy’s Bright Ideas in 2015 with the purpose of offering creative and eclectic home décor. The shop finds vintage or gently-used items and repurposes them to create distinctive and functional art – like lamps made out of driftwood, guitars or even vintage record players. Their pieces are unique and also customizable.
These artists among many others will be at the 8th annual Art & Fashion Walk on Saturday, February 13. Stroll the Fishing Village for outdoor displays of unique arts and crafts, deals from your favorite stores on The Reef, and more, like the well known stunning photography of longtime Member Fran Carlisle. At 1 p.m., the outdoor Fashion Show will begin, as Members, Club Associates and employees of Reef stores walk the runway modeling items from the various shops.
