Ocean Reef Club to Launch 2020 Census

Stand up and be counted, what does that really mean?

It was 10 years ago that Ocean Reef Club first set out to understand more about how Members discovered and subsequently used their Club. The 2010 Census asked how they viewed many of the amenities in relation to that use and perhaps more importantly, their real estate investment. Also asking what Members thought about key issues, where they would go if Ocean Reef didn’t exist, how they viewed their future at the Club, and most powerful, was Ocean Reef truly a Unique Way of Life.

Through that process, the Board of Directors received the data and information that led to significant enhancements in programs, offerings and capital projects. The 2010 and subsequent 2015 Census played a major role in affirming the need and future use of the Member Fitness Center and Lap Pool. It was also the impetus for changes and improvements to Buccaneer Island and a renewed and reinvented Legacy Membership program. Just as critical, the Board and Management learned what to leave untouched, most notably the Raw Bar.

All of this was possible because more than 2,000 Member families completed their Ocean Reef Club Census. The Census responses are collected by an international research firm that compiles the data for the Club’s review. Although the Club never sees any of the individual responses, this aggregate response helps paint a picture of our Membership; both as a collective and by individual Member type. Like the pixels on a TV screen or the brush strokes of an artist, each one adds to the collective view and the more there are, the sharper the image. Individual participation paints the best picture. With sharp focus and bright colors, Club leadership can see a clear path to the future of the Club.

“Stand up and be counted” is all about Member participation. On Wednesday, January 8, an email with an invitation and web link to complete the 2020 Census questionnaire will be sent to all Members. The Census will take approximately 25 minutes to complete the questions. At the conclusion, there will be a separate link with an option to register for a complimentary beverage and a sweepstakes with some fantastic prizes as a thank you for completing the Census.
