Oh! What a Team!
By Jody Steele
It was definitely a “home run” for Food and Beverage this most unusual Season at the Reef. Erwin Pals, Vice President of F & B shared how his team continually took on unforeseen challenges with enthusiasm and flexibility. Restrictions required for health and safety never stood in the way of evolving concepts and creative solutions. Erwin Pals said “the F & B team was always motivated and resourceful in presenting an assortment of dining opportunities for all Ocean Reef Members”. Looking back at what this department accomplished is truly something to celebrate.
Al Fresco Dining…
As social distancing became a new way of life, the Food & Beverage team smartly added new Tiki Huts at the Raw Bar and Reef Hut along with additional seating. Palm Court Nights on the Main Channel became a delightful destination for dinner on starry nights with a delectable Mediterranean inspired menu. Then we must give a tribute to Town Hall Waterside that captivated Members with its rustic décor, mesmerizing mural, twinkly lights, and cargo kitchens with ever changing menus. Toski’s at the Turn, the Beach Grill, and our famous Flying Burgee gave us more outdoor eateries. What a joy to dine al fresco at the Reef!
Traditional Resources…
The Islander, Gianni Ristorante, and the Burgee Bar had fewer tables available per restaurant restrictions, but the fine food was available either by take-out, delivery, or open for your dining pleasure. Hours were extended to allow for distancing and Members kept up with the pace. Pop up theme dinners were offered and became popular meals for families.
Keeping Hydrated…
Beverages “to go” were an instant hit as Members picked up a pitcher of such favorites as the Reef Cup and others to take home. Port O’Call Wine and Spirits opened in a beautiful, renovated space inside and out with a wine tasting menu and a charcuterie board. Sitting and relaxing with a glass of wine and a view of the Marina has become a special destination for Members.
Reef Eats…
A new concept with a menu that features Member favorites that can be delivered to homes, rentals, and even a boat at the Marina in nifty delivery cars has also been a huge hit. Effortless dining with home comfort included. Choosing from an array of Member specialties has become a lovely way to dine.
Success All Around…
Erwin Pals is beyond proud of the F & B team. He heaps enormous credit to all involved when he shares the “team effort from the Associates and the Managers at all outlets” deserve the accolades. He was pleased to note that expanded and new venues combined served 168,000 covers with the Raw Bar leading the pack and Town Hall Waterside coming in second with servings. Ocean Reef Members undoubtedly appreciate their restaurants!
Looking Ahead…
The summer is a busy planning time for F & B and Erwin shared that the team is presently designing menus for CH Prime, the new Grill Room, and updating the Ocean Room to “Coastal Cuisine fare with fresh, bright, and healthy ingredients by utilizing seafood from outstanding Atlantic and Pacific sources”.
He added that he looks forward to meeting and greeting Members in these new venues next season.
Kudos to F & B for their ingenuity, dedication, and leadership in helping Ocean Reef Club Members through a tough time by providing a wide assortment of new and old dining choices while creating memorable moments.
