On Monday, July 6, our own ORC Director of Golf Scott Kirkwood sat down with PGA Tour Professional Brad Faxon in the Academy of Golf for Brad’s XM PGA Tour radio show “Just the Fax”. Throughout the one-hour broadcast, the pair spoke about all things golf, including the impressive golf program at Ocean Reef, the evolution of the game itself, and about PGA Tour Pro Bryson DeChambeau, who Faxon interviewed in the same segment.
Beginning his broadcast, Faxon introduced his listeners to the Academy of Golf and Driving Range: “We’re broadcasting from the Academy of Golf at Ocean Reef. I’m in their teaching center sitting where they do putter fitting and they’ve got the SAM Putt Lab, which is incredible technology. They’ve got holes cut where you can practice putting, they’ve got this cool Jim McLean ball that tells you if you got a true roll, and the coolest Scotty Cameron putter wall with putters everywhere… But what I like most about the Range are those little nets you can chip and pitch to. I’ll tell you what, I would be all over that.”
Scott and Brad talked about how Scott came to be at Ocean Reef from his hometown of Gullane, Scotland, about golf legend Bob Toski’s tenure as a teaching pro at Ocean Reef from 1960-73, the many options available to golfers and Members alike at Ocean Reef, from golf clubs and fittings to courses to retail offerings, and even Brad’s affection for the Ocean Reef logo.
