Update on Capital Projects
Lagoon Re-nourishment Project Announced
Last summer, the Club embarked on three major projects; the Associate Parking Garage, Ocean Room/Lobby and the Golf Clubhouse. With the Associate Garage completed this past December, a marked improvement in parking was immediately noticed throughout the Club in key areas like The Spa & Fitness Center and the Fishing Village. Four hundred spaces were created and a transportation shuttle was engaged to take Associates to and from their place of work. Not only was parking throughout the Club easier to find, but the shuttle also helped reduce the amount of associate vehicles and golf carts driving around.
Tradition Returns
The Ocean Room/Lobby project, which was initiated to extend the useful life of the building, is nearly complete and will offer Members a completely redesigned and renovated Lobby, Reef Lounge and Ocean Room. Upon entry, the history and beauty of Ocean Reef will be evident in the carefully selected photography and artwork throughout the new building. The Reef Lounge has been completely renovated, complete with a beautiful bar and expanded seating with views overlooking Buccaneer Island. The Lounge will open on Holidays and special weekends starting late August. At the same time, the Inn Lobby is anticipated to open with the Front Desk, Concierge and Transportation Teams relocating to their new home. Breakfast service in the Ocean Room will follow a few weeks later. The reopening of this space represents the return of many cherished traditions including the Aquarium, of which two 400-gallon tanks have been installed with fish and coral being introduced slowly to each.
Stay tuned for information on the grand opening event planned for November.
Clubhouse Takes Shape
With a December 2021 opening, the Clubhouse project is moving along well. During the past months, the Clubhouse has taken shape. With the building closed in, the porte-cochere and verandas constructed, the focus has shifted to interior work and getting the roof tiles installed. Additionally, the revamp of hole #9 and the tee box on #10 are progressing at a steady pace. The new putting green and chipping areas are also progressing nicely with grass planting having been completed last week. We feel confident that golfers and non-golfers alike will be thrilled to enjoy the new golf experience.
Lagoon Re-nourishment Project Announced
A highly-anticipated project and one on many a wish list, the Buccaneer Island Lagoon will receive a much-needed renourishment and beautification this summer. Phase one includes de-mucking and removing years of accumulated silt in the Lagoon. New sand will be added to the Lagoon floor and the overall size of the Lagoon will be reduced slightly. The Lagoon was created in 1952 and functioned as the premier swimming spot on Buccaneer Island. With the Atlantic in the distance, the Lagoon and surrounding beach provided the best of both worlds. The goal with this enhancement is to return to this desirable experience for those swimming and relaxing in and around the Lagoon. Phase two will enhance the arrival experience, expand beach areas, provide for additional cart parking, include a pedestrian boardwalk and increased landscaping. The project is projected to begin Monday, August 2, at which time the Lagoon will close for approximately 90 days.
As the Ocean Reef Club Mission Statement reads, “Provide excellence in all services and facilities to increase the value and desirability for Ocean Reef Club membership and member real estate.” The Board and Management team are committed to upholding this for all Members and their families.
